oh my dad!

so my parents came down to take me out for my birthday lunch today. we're at olive garden and my mom goes, "are you going to tell her where you were on her birthday?" and i'm just thinking, why in the world does it matter where he was? he was staying in the city, but why is that important to me? so he goes, "i was at the espn zone to watch the bears game." i had never actually heard of it so i was still at a loss as to why it was important and then he goes to my mom, "you tell her the story." okay, so there's a story. he was downtown for work, but apparently couldn't get the game (if you want to call it that) at the hotel so he went to the espn zone to watch it. i guess there was a party upstairs and he said "only ten seats downstairs." i have a feeling he was exaggerating, but it was crowded and he didn't know anyone, but apparently made friends with some guy. for some reason he brought up that it was his daughter's birthday and talked about how i was a teacher and all that jazz. the guy said that his mom and sister are both teachers. (i'm still wondering why this story really pertains to me other than he was talking about teaching). well, i guess this guy is like 3-4 years out of college and was in town (from minnesota) for a job interview. i don't know what else my dad said about me, but i guess he asked my dad if he could have my number because i sounded like the kind of girl he'd like to date. my dad was smart and didn't give my number out to some complete, random stranger, but when he got back to the hotel to call my mom and tell her about it, he asked if he was right. yes. my dad says he was a really, really nice guy, but still, random. my mom was like, "you'd get a call saying 'happy birthday, i just met your dad in a bar' and you'd go, 'you must mean my brother.'" ha ha... no kidding! really, i'd freak out. like my dad would give my number to a random guy in a bar? even my dad being in a bar... he'd have to say sports bar. but anyway, that's my random story. gotta say, if this guy was my soulmate, that sure would be a story for the grandkids! my mom mentioned that maybe he'd get a second interview and be in town again next week because my dad will be there again. now it that happens, maybe it's fate...
