Wright Street Rivalry

so tonight was the wright street rivalry game (it's the third oldest rivalry in the state) where we played urbana... at urbana... that was an experience in itself! i've only been to home football games and never the in town rivalries (meaning urbana and centennial) so i knew i was going to be in for a treat, i just didn't really know what to expect. it's different being the visitors and not really knowing the stadium. and it's different when there aren't enough stands for the visitors and the home team's side looks empty... there were seriously more maroons than tigers at the game... how ridiculous is that? (especially when you think about how UHS is probably twice as big as central because champaign has two high schools and urbana only has one!) during the game, it wasn't that much different from usual once you got used to the new setting, but it was weird being around so many teenagers that you don't have a clue who are... it was after the game that was more what i knew i should expect... now we beat them 35-6 and were presented the "trophy" that has been in our display case the last four years (overall we are now 67-32-4... maroons being the 67!) now okay, it wasn't a close game so i knew there wouldn't be any trouble regarding the game which was a relief but i just figured all would be well... and it was, but probably only because there were five bajillion cops around... i mean i understand why... all the teens are from town so they're hanging out and whatever, but seriously, nothing was going on so i don't really think we needed that many cops... i mean i felt safer with them there (especially when i heard a kid say something about not doing anything because there were cops everywhere), but still... i guess i just wish we could put a little more trust in the youth of today... although considering i spend 45+ hours a week with teenagers, i do understand the necessity of having cops around... it just made me a little nervous with so many... i was afraid of getting in trouble! i don't know for what, but they kind of made me a little paranoid!
